The idea
Why this works
Ten days that move at the pace of the river. Three nights in Cairo for the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza plateau, then four aboard a small Nile riverboat between Luxor and Aswan, with a private Egyptologist who stays with you the whole way. Abu Simbel is flown, not driven, so the temples are seen in good light and without the convoy. The last two nights return to Cairo on the Nile at Four Seasons.
What sets it apart
- Grand Egyptian Museum with a private Egyptologist
- Inside a pyramid chamber on the Giza plateau
- Four nights on a small riverboat between Luxor and Aswan
- Valley of the Kings, Nefertari's tomb and the Temple of Hatshepsut
- Abu Simbel by air, at the hour the facade catches the sun
The plan
Day by day
Open any day to see where you are, where you sleep and what the day holds. The map follows along, and every point on it opens the day that belongs to it.
A privately guided morning through the Grand Egyptian Museum, which holds more than one hundred thousand objects, including the complete Tutankhamun collection shown together for the first time.
Breakfast, lunch
Mycerinus, Chephren and the Great Pyramid, with time inside one of the burial chambers, then the Sphinx at the hour the plateau empties.
Breakfast, lunch
Fly south to ancient Thebes and settle into your cabin for the next four nights. Luxor Temple in the afternoon, then Karnak as the light turns gold on the columns.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner
The west bank at first light. The Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Hatshepsut, Nefertari's painted tomb and the chamber Howard Carter opened in 1922.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner
The Temple of Horus at Edfu in the morning, a cooking lesson with the boat's chef as you sail, and Kom Ombo in the late afternoon with its mummified crocodiles.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner
The granite quarries and unfinished obelisk, then by boat to the temple of Isis on Agilika island. The afternoon is spent sailing the Aswan islands in a felucca.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Fly to Abu Simbel for the twin temples and their seventy foot seated figures, moved stone by stone when the High Dam was built. Fly back to Cairo in the evening.
The Step Pyramid of Djoser and the tombs at Sakkara, then the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization for the royal mummies.
Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza
Breakfast, lunch
Private transfer to the airport with fast track through the terminal.
