New Year’s Eve is three months away. That is still enough time to plan a good trip, but it is late for the most wanted suites, private villas and gala tables. The right answer also depends on who is travelling. A family needs a very different evening from a couple, and a solo traveller may want an organised public event rather than a remote resort. Here are the places we would check now, with honest notes on who each one suits.
Edinburgh for friends and solo travellers
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is built around a ticketed city-centre street party, live stages and midnight fireworks from the castle. The event welcoming 2027 is scheduled for 31 December 2026. It suits friends who want a proper public celebration and solo travellers who prefer an organised event with a clear programme.
The street party is for ages 12 and over, so it is not our first choice with younger children. The Balmoral puts guests beside the event area, but rooms disappear early. Buy tickets only from the official Hogmanay site or its named ticket partners.

Paris for couples
Paris stages its public celebration around the Champs-Élysées and Arc de Triomphe. Recent editions have combined projection mapping with midnight fireworks. The detailed programme for 31 December 2026 had not been published when we checked, so the exact format still needs confirmation.
For a couple, the better plan is usually dinner at the hotel followed by the public spectacle, rather than crossing the city between reservations. Hôtel de Crillon and Le Meurice keep the centre walkable. Their gala arrangements and minimum stays should be checked before choosing the room.
St Moritz for an alpine New Year
St Moritz is less about one public countdown and more about the grand hotels. Badrutt’s Palace opens its 2026 to 2027 winter season on 3 December, and hotels across the resort hold their own formal dinners and parties.
This works for couples and smaller groups who want to ski by day and dress for dinner. Three months out is late for the festive week, so flexibility on room type and length of stay will help. Confirm the gala details directly rather than relying on a previous year’s theme.
New York for the iconic countdown
Times Square is the obvious choice for travellers who want the famous Ball Drop once in their life. General viewing is free and first come, first served. The pens open in the afternoon, there is no re-entry and public toilets are not available inside them.
That makes the street experience a poor fit for young children. For friends or solo travellers who still want the atmosphere, a hotel package with a verified view is much more comfortable. Ask exactly what can be seen from the room or venue. A Times Square address does not guarantee a view of the ball.

Aspen and Snowmass for families who ski
Snowmass usually marks New Year with a torchlight parade down Fanny Hill and family programming in the base village. Aspen Mountain has also held an evening fireworks display. Mountain conditions can change the programme, as Snowmass cancelled fireworks in the previous season when the launch site lacked snow.
The Little Nell is the polished Aspen choice, while Snowmass is often easier for families who want everything close to the slopes. At this point in the year, book the room and lift access together and treat fireworks as a bonus rather than the reason for the trip.

The Bahamas for families with children
Atlantis Paradise Island is a large resort, but its scale is useful at New Year. It has previously run separate ticketed celebrations for adults, children and teenagers, along with dining and fireworks. The Cove and The Reef are the calmer accommodation choices within the complex.
Choose Atlantis when a family wants activity and separate age-appropriate plans, not quiet island privacy. The final 2026 programme and ticket inclusions must be confirmed with the resort, and event tickets may be separate from the room.
Singapore for a polished family city break
The Marina Bay countdown brings fireworks and public festivities to the waterfront. The detailed programme welcoming 2027 was not yet final when we checked, but the official event is established and the city is easy to navigate over a short stay.
Marina Bay Sands gives the direct view, while The Fullerton has a more traditional sense of place. This is one of the simplest Asian choices with children, provided the family is comfortable with crowds and late nights. Book a confirmed bay-view room if seeing the fireworks from indoors matters.

Bangkok for nightlife and choice
Bangkok normally offers several large countdowns, including riverside events near ICONSIAM and city-centre concerts. The artists and exact programmes change each year, so wait for official announcements before buying event packages.
Friends can choose the larger concerts, while solo travellers may prefer a hotel river terrace where the evening is organised from dinner through midnight. Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and The Peninsula Bangkok are both well placed for the river, but confirm the view and gala terms with the hotel.
Turks and Caicos for couples and private family groups
Amanyara and COMO Parrot Cay keep New Year within the resort, with festive meals and guest activities rather than a mass public event. That suits couples who want privacy and families taking a villa for several generations.
This is not the place for nightlife or an open city countdown. It is also one of the hardest options to secure three months out, particularly for villas and longer festive stays. Ask about minimum stays, deposits and the exact New Year programme before committing to flights.

What to book first
Start with the hotel, not the flight. Festive minimum stays, compulsory dinners and event tickets can change the real cost considerably. Once the room and celebration are confirmed, flights and transfers can be fitted around them.
At three months out, be open to a different room category or travelling a day earlier. We check the cancellation terms and what is included in writing, especially where the hotel’s New Year programme is still being finalised.

Frequently asked questions
- Is three months enough time to plan New Year travel?
- Yes, but not with unlimited choice. Top suites, villas and gala tables may already be gone. Flexibility on dates, room type and destination makes a good trip much more likely.
- Are New Year hotel dinners compulsory?
- They often are at luxury resorts. Ask for the gala price, children’s policy, dress code and cancellation terms before confirming the room.
- Which New Year destination is best with young children?
- Singapore, Aspen or Atlantis are the clearest options here. Times Square and Edinburgh’s street party involve long periods standing in dense crowds and are better saved for older children or adults.
